Dragonfly Aerospace and Swedish edge‑computing innovator Unibap Space Solutions have signed a strategic Compatibility Agreement that enables seamless integration between Dragonfly’s electro‑optical imaging payloads — Gecko, Mantis, Chameleon (SWIR), Chameleon (Hyperspectral) and Caiman — and Unibap’s high-performance computer solutions, including the radiation-tolerant iX5 and iX10 edge-computers, the Ubuntu-based operating system Unibap SCOS, and hyperspectral pre-processing pipeline Unibap LOOM.

Real-Time Edge AI for Smarter Satellites

The collaboration enables satellites to execute AI/ML workloads in orbit, converting raw spectral data into actionable intelligence within seconds and transmitting only high‑value findings to Earth. This approach slashes latency, curbs downlink costs, and supports a new generation of responsive Earth‑observation services.

“Pairing our Gecko, Mantis, Chameleon and Caiman electro-optical imagers with Unibap’s solutions, now certified on both iX5 and iX10 hardware, moves the industry beyond image capture to real‑time insight,” said Francois Mostert, CEO of Cameras at Dragonfly Aerospace. “Stakeholders in agriculture, disaster response and environmental monitoring will benefit from faster, data‑driven decisions.”

Carl Bondesson, Project Manager at Unibap, added, “Dragonfly’s versatile payload suite delivers exceptional spectral fidelity across multiple wavebands. With Unibap SCOS and LOOM on our iX5 and iX10 platforms, we empower satellites to analyse, learn and adapt while still in orbit, setting a new benchmark for intelligent space systems.”

Key Benefits for Mission Owners

  • Seconds‑Level Latency: Immediate alerts for wildfires, floods, crop stress and security events
  • In‑Mission Algorithm Updates: Deploy or refine AI models without hardware changes, future‑proofing missions
  • Energy‑Optimised Operations: Intelligent scheduling on Unibap’s platform pairs with Dragonfly’s sensors to extend satellite life and lower OPEX
  • Scalable, Plug‑and‑Play Architecture: Compatibility across Gecko, Mantis, Chameleon and Caiman payloads, and across iX5 and iX10 computers, accelerates development for single satellites and large constellations alike

Roadmap

This agreement underscores a shared commitment to accelerate the shift from traditional image collection to instantaneous, edge‑powered intelligence in space.

By combining Dragonfly Aerospace’s broad spectral imaging capability with Unibap’s proven on‑orbit computing, the partnership offers satellite operators a clear, low‑risk path to higher performance, lower latency, and more sustainable mission economics, advancing the entire Earth‑observation ecosystem toward faster, smarter decisions for the benefit of people and planet.
